Best Pet Folding Play Pen - Medium - Zebra Skin Review

I bought this product when I had to take my elderly cat on a 3 state, 9 day trip. The cat is very mild mannered and not easily startled but she had never been in a car for more than an hour and had never been on any overnight stays anywhere. I bought this playpen to keep her confined while we were at hotels and family homes. It worked perfectly!

I bought the 42" diameter playpen and that had enough room for a full sized hooded litter box, recirculating water fountain unit, food bowl and a 12 x 12 x 15 cat bed. Because the top mesh piece is fully zippered, I was able to run the cord for the water fountain out of the top of the playpen and still secure the top.

The cat loved her playpen. When we were in the hotel room with her, we unzipped one of the side doors and left it open for her to come and go as she pleased. The side doors have velco to secure them open. When we were out of the room, the cat was secured in the playpen. We also kept her "locked in" when we were staying with family who didn't have cats or had other pets. She was perfectly happy to stay inside.

The bottom is a heavy canvas and the mesh is the standard type of mesh found in soft sided pet carriers. Could a pet escape? I could not see any way for a pet to slip out unless the mesh was ripped out by a pet determined to escape. But the same can be said of any soft sided carrier or containment. For my cat, it was totally secure. I had absolutely no concerns about leaving her unattended.

There are two cons:

1. The carrying bag is cut just exaclty the size of a neatly factory folded playpen. See #2...
2. The folding process isn't the easiest. It's not horrible but it does take a bit of practice. I could never get the neat folds and tucks like the factory. This wouldn't be as much of an issue if the darn bag was just 1/4 to 1/2 inch larger. With my folding skills, it took some tugging and a bit of swearing to get the darn thing back in the bag but I managed.

BOTTOM LINE:

This was absolutely perfect for my cat. I have recommended this to other friends who travel with their cats and they have been impressed. It would also be perfect for someone introducing a new kitten/cat into a household or to isolate a sick cat. I am totally satisfied with this product.
